Dear Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the administration and staff at Sierra Middle School, welcome! I am so excited to begin my 7th year as principal of this amazing school. Our motto for Sierra Middle School is “Soaring to Excellence” because it conveys ambition, growth, and reaching one’s full potential with grace and determination. Essentially, it means aiming to excel and rise above challenges to achieve outstanding success.

  • Sierra began full implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports in the 2011 school year. The focus was to encourage and reward good behaviors. The focus of PBIS is prevention, not punishment, and includes restorative practices and community-building circles.
  • Sierra has a focus on college & career readiness with an emphasis on A-G requirements, GPA, and the Learner Profile, where students will set goals throughout the year.
  • Sierra has many enrichment activities, such as 7th-period clubs, middle-school sports, and intramurals.
  • Students’ social-emotional well-being is important to us, therefore we have 4 counselors (with one being a full-time mental health counselor) to provide support for your children.

At Sierra, we are thrilled and ready to get started. This year holds incredible promise, and we believe it will be our best year yet. As we move forward, we remain committed to creating positive and enriching experiences for every student. Our cafeteria staff is the finest in RUSD; our custodial staff works diligently every day to keep our campus clean; our campus supervisors ensure a safe environment for all; our clerical staff warmly welcomes students and families with a smile; and our dedicated teachers guide, support, and care deeply for every student. Together, we’re making Sierra a wonderful place to learn and grow.
